SAN DIEGO SEPTIC EMERGENCY?

Something feel wrong? Call or text us any time. We’ll give you a straight answer as quickly as possible. (We’re always honest, too, so sometimes that answer is “you need a plumber, not a pumper.”)

A HIGHER STANDARD FOR SERVICE

WHY ALL-AMERICAN?

We’re a veteran-owned, family-run business, and our commitment to honest service shapes everything about how we work. It’s why thousands of septic customers in San Diego choose us every year!

OWNER OPERATED

Mathew and Nicki run All-American Septic themselves, and Mathew works in the field alongside the crew. There’s no corporate chain of command, so your questions go straight to the people who own the company.

HONEST, STRAIGHTFORWARD ANSWERS

If your problem isn’t a septic problem, we’ll tell you, even if that means you need a plumber instead of us. If it can safely wait until morning, we’ll tell you that too, so you don’t pay for an after-hours call you don’t need.

NO UNNECESSARY UPSELLS

We pump, inspect, and handle minor repairs. We don’t do major septic contracting, so we have no reason to invent problems. If you need bigger work, we’ll point you to a contractor we trust.

RIGHT-SIZED FOR THE JOB

With 6 trucks and multiple tank sizes, we’re big enough for commercial, industrial, and municipal jobs. We’re also small enough that you’re never just a number.

HOW YOUR SEPTIC SYSTEM WORKS

A cross-section of a septic system
  1. Wastewater flows in from your house from an inlet pipe.
  2. Solids sink to the bottom as sludge, while lighter things like grease float to the top as scum.
  3. Natural bacteria present in the tank break down the solids over time.
  4. As new water comes in, the existing water gets pushed out to a second chamber and then on to the drain field, which is why your tank always looks “full” even right after pumping.
  5. The drain field filters the water back into the ground safely, completing the process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PUMP MY SEPTIC TANK?

Every 2 to 5 years for most homes. Where you fall in that range depends on your tank size, how many people live in the house, and how much water you use. If you just bought your home, plan to pump around the two-year mark. That first service shows us how your household uses the system, and we’ll recommend a schedule from there. If a neighbor tells you their tank never needs pumping, it still does.

HOW MUCH DOES SEPTIC PUMPING COST IN SAN DIEGO?

A standard residential pump-out with All-American Septic starts at around $500. Your final price depends on your tank size, how far the tank is from where our truck can park, and whether your lids are uncovered when we arrive. You’ll know the price before we show up, and we won’t pad your bill with repairs you don’t need. On a typical three-year schedule, pumping works out to about $12 a month. City sewer usually runs $50 to $60 a month.

DO I NEED TO BE HOME FOR THE SERVICE?

No. As long as we can get to your tank, you don’t need to be there. Before your appointment, uncover the lids but don’t remove them. Also unlock any gates, move vehicles out of the way, secure your pets, and keep your phone nearby in case your technician has a question. Not sure you found the right lids? Text us a photo at (760) 410-6549. One more thing: we don’t rebury the lids after pumping. You can put the dirt back yourself, or ask us about installing risers so you never have to dig again.

HOW LONG DOES A SEPTIC PUMP TAKE?

Usually about an hour or less. The biggest factors are how far the tank is from the truck and the terrain in between. Our trucks carry 200 feet of hose. If your tank is farther than that from where we can park, let us know when you book. Pumping for a real estate inspection takes a little longer because we run a 30-minute water test on the drain field first.

WHY DOES MY TANK LOOK FULL AGAIN SO SOON AFTER PUMPING?

Because it’s supposed to be full. A septic tank is designed to sit about 90–95% full. With normal use, it returns to that level within two to three weeks, and as new wastewater comes in, liquid flows out to your drain field. What pumping removes is the sludge and scum that build up over the years. So if you lift the lids a month after service and the tank looks full, your system is working the way it should.

DO I NEED TO ADD RID-X, YEAST, DOG FOOD, OR ANYTHING ELSE TO MY TANK?

No. Your tank gets all the bacteria it needs every time someone uses the bathroom. Additives aren’t necessary, and some can push sludge and scum out of the tank and into your drain field, which can shorten its life. Yeast, dog food, and other home remedies are old wives’ tales. If your neighbor swears by dog food and hasn’t pumped in years, his tank still needs pumping. The best thing you can do for your tank is pump it on schedule.

CAN I FLUSH "FLUSHABLE" WIPES?

No. A wipe that can go down your toilet shouldn’t go into your septic tank, even if the package says “septic safe.” Wipes don’t break down. They sit in your tank until your pumper removes them, and removing them costs extra. Over time they can form a mat across both compartments or clog your drain field. A tank with years of wipes may be impossible to pump with a vacuum truck. The rule is simple: only flush the three P’s, which are pee, poo, and toilet paper.

WHERE IS MY SEPTIC TANK?

It’s often not where you’d expect. San Diego County tanks can be hard to find, especially on large properties and at older homes built before septic permits were required, where there may be nothing on file. Even when plans exist, tanks sometimes got moved during installation. It took five of us two and a half days to find the tank at our own house. It was 300 feet away, down by the avocado tree. We’ll pull your county records for free and email you what we find, though those plans aren’t always accurate. Most tanks have two manhole-size lids. If the records don’t help, we can refer you to a trusted contractor or plumber who does locating work.

WE BELIEVE IN GIVING BACK
